Dear Christ Church,
With the summer holidays almost over, at Christ Church we are gearing up to a busy term.
Morning services in September
In September we are going to look at the vision of our church in a mini-sermon series entitled ‘Devoted to Christ, Dedicated to Community’ on 7th and 21st September (Sunday 14th September is the Holiday Club reunion service).
Also on 21st September, , we are delighted that Chimdiuto (the daughter of our curate-to-be Dozie and his wife Neema) is to be baptised at the 10.30am service.
28th September is to be our Harvest and Back to Church Sunday.
Tour the Bishop’s Garden
Bishop James and his wife Bridget are organising an Open Garden at Bishopscourt, 24 St Margaret’s Street, Rochester, ME1 1TS on Saturday 6th and Sunday 7th September from 1.00 pm to 5.00 pm. This is part of the National Gardens Scheme. There will be teas, amazing homemade cakes, and a plant stall, entry £3.00, children free. The NGS supports a range of care based charities, for more details see the website www.ngs.org.uk . For more information please contact Bridget Langstaff: 07816 828439 or email: email@example.com
I am delighted to confirm that Rev'd Dozie Moneme will be licensed by Bishop James as curate to this parish on Saturday evening 13th September at St. George's Beckenham at 6pm. Those who would like to join Jay in welcoming Dozie should inform Jay of their desire to attend. We should be able to share cars as parking is not easy around St. Georges. He will be welcomed to Christ Church on Sunday 14th September, but as it's our holiday club reunion service at 10.30am, this will be briefer than normal.
Mum’s the Word
Orpington Baptist Church have organised an event called ‘Mum’s the Word’ on Saturday 16th October. This will be an great evening presented by Cathy Madavan and Diane Louise Jordan suitable for all mums. Fliers will be available in church on Sunday 7th September but do start considering which friends you would like to go with you. More details on the attached document.
We are delighted to inform you that Bishop Michael Nazir-Ali joins us in November (Sunday morning 16th November) for a confirmation service. What is confirmation? In short, it is you confirming your faith in God- and the steps you have taken to walk with Him. It is also our confirmation and support of you as you journey on. (There is a bit more to it, but it isn’t big or scary!) It also formalises your Christian commitment so that you can regularly receive benefit of partaking in the bread and wine (the body and blood of Christ) during our services.
This is an appropriate next step for anyone who feels they have come to Christ in a new way, or they have joined the Anglican church from another denomination, or they want to make a public declaration of their faith and have never been confirmed before. As part of that exploration, Christ Church would offer you some preparation in order that you feel able to confirm your faith with confidence. We offer to meet with adults for 4 sessions and a 'rehearsal' on a mid-week evening (if you are part of a small group, you might need to suspend your attendance from that for this period.) We also meet with young people on a Sunday evening - during the 'Juice' sessions. In these sessions, we cover some essential areas of Christian theology. It’s an informal and interactive time with a group of other adults also considering this next step.
Do speak to any teenagers/those of secondary school age who you think may be interested. Do prayerfully consider it for yourself as well!
As such, Jay would welcome a chance to talk with you further. Do contact him on 01689 870923 or at firstname.lastname@example.org.
